“When you give your friend a loan of any amount… return his security to him…” (Devarim 24:10-13)

If an item was accepted as security for a loan, it has to be returned regularly, whenever the borrower may need it (Rambam, Hilchos Malveh 3:5). For example, if the security is a pillow, it should be returned every evening.

We learn from this mitzvah how sensitive we need to be to a person’s feelings and needs.
