Welcome to AnswerLine!
We're here to help you find answers to all things Judaism.
Please chooose one of the following:

  1. Torah Forum,
  2. Bais Medrash, or
  3. Ask the Rabbi

PATH A: THE TORAH FORUM

If your question is either:

  1. A general interest question about Judaism
  2. Part of a school or college research assignment
  3. Simply reflective of a desire to learn more about Judaism and Jewish History
Then please send your question to Torah-Forum, an ongoing discussion of Judaism involving people from around the globe. There you'll have the benefit of hearing multiple opinions and of taking part in the discussion of other topics if you desire. You will receive enlightening answers which are often more detailed and comprehensive than those which our own Rabbinical staff, with their limited time and resources, can provide for you.

Torah-Forum is a mailing list; you'll subscribe in the course of submitting your question. Of course, you can sign off at any time.

PATH B: THE BAIS MEDRASH

If you have a relatively strong background in Jewish learning and have a more advanced Halachic (legal) or Hashkafic (philosophical) question or simply wish to take part in an advanced Torah discussion, then our on-line Bais Medrash is the path for you. Here too you'll have the benefit of hearing multiple opinions and participating in an ongoing discussion. As with Torah-Forum, you can unsubscribe whenever you wish.

PATH C: ASK THE RABBI

If your question:

  1. Requires an urgent response
  2. Requires a decision by a competent Halachic authority
  3. Is too personal to be posted on our public discussion forums
  4. Is reflective of a philosophical dilemma which is likely to require an ongoing e-mail dialogue with a mentor (for example, questions about G-d's existence, Jewish morality, the Divine nature of the Torah, the purpose of life, etc.)
. . . then please submit your question using the box below. Please write your question in as much detail as possible - don't be shy! In addition, please tell us a little bit about yourself - responding in a 'vacuum' is a difficult task, especially when delving into complex topics in Jewish philosophy, ethics and law. Approximate age, gender, level of Jewish education, synagogue affiliation, and profession are types of information that will assist us in providing you with a more focused and appropriate response.
