Rabbi Shaya Karlinsky

Dean of Darche Noam Institutions, Yeshivat Darche Noam/Shapell’s and Midreshet Rachel for Women

Growing up in Los Angeles, I attended the local Jewish Day Schools, coming to Israel in 1968 to learn in Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh (KBY) “for one year.” After a second year in KBY, I studied for two years in the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem, and in the ITRI Kollel, from where I received Smicha. I completed a Master’s of Education (Educational Psychology) at Philadelphia’s Temple University, and returned to Israel “for good” in 1975.

I taught in a couple of the then-developing Yeshivot for beginners (as well as developed a professional career as a photojournalist), co-founding Yeshivat Darche Noam in 1978, which merged with the Shapell College of Jewish Studies in Jan. 1980. In 1983 Darche Noam opened a women’s Yeshiva/Seminary, Midreshet Rachel. Both Yeshivot are geared to college graduates and professionals, and more info on the ideological and educational approach, as well as the curriculum, can be sent to anyone considering spending some time learning Torah in Israel.
