(L-R) Jon & Andrew Morgenstern, Naftali Reich and Arthur

Notes from Andrew and Jon's Eulogies

As a Father:

To tell you all the things our father did for us would take days. In addition to all things you could possibly imagine, he was able to give us several things you could possibly imagine, he was able to give us several things that we wouldn't even have known to dream for.

  • Dad showed us that by taking enjoyment in the simple things life becomes so much more meaningful. The flight of a bird, a quiet Friday night dinner with family and close friends, a breath of fresh air. Life becomes so much richer when you can appreciate each moment and filter out the unnecessary minutia.
  • He also gave us peace - peace of mind and peace in spirit. How can someone possibly do this? Even for our father it took 50 plus years to realize. But by achieving that himself through hard work and devotion he was able to show us what really matters in life and be an exemplary role model for us.
  • How peaceful it was for us to have such a peaceful father. Even on his death bed, we were able to take comfort knowing how peaceful and prepared he was with everything that was happening.

As a Human Being

  • The actions of all of you over the past few months are testimony to what a miraculous man Arthur was. The support we had available every hour of every day has made everything much easier. Knowing that there is a whole community out there who understands how wonderful he was.
  • To summarize him as briefly as possible. Arthur appreciated.
  • One of his favorite activities was taking a Kayak ride off the deck of his shore house. Upon return, we would ask him how his ride was. We would need to sit down for this, as he would describe every bird and every tree as if they leapt off the pages of a fairy tale. There was no simple creation of Hashem's he wasn't amazed by.
  • Even during his last visits to the hospital he thanked every nurse who poked him with a needle as he learned everyone's name. He remained so positive at all times. It was incredible to witness.
  • He said thank you for every breath and treasured his last breaths as most of us treasure a lifetime of memories.

We want to give a special thanks to Rabbi Sholom Kamenetsky. Not only has he spent thousands of hours learning with Arthur. But their relationship has helped make the last ten years with him so special and given us the strength and faith to deal with our loss.
